Uses of Water Glass Solution

Water glass solution, also known as sodium silicate solution or effervescent soda ash, is a soluble inorganic silicate composed of sodium silicate (Na₂O-nSiO₂). It has a wide range of uses in almost every sector of the national economy. The following are some of the major application areas:

1. construction field:
Water glass solution can be used as a raw material for acid-resistant cement, as well as for soil reinforcement, waterproofing, and anticorrosion.
Coating the surface of materials to improve their resistance to weathering. For example, impregnating or painting porous materials such as clay bricks, cement concrete, etc. with water glass with a density of 1.35g/cm³ can improve the denseness, strength, impermeability, frost resistance and water resistance of the materials.
Formulate quick-setting waterproofing agent for localized emergency repairs such as plugging and caulking.
Repair the cracks of brick wall, mix water glass, granulated blast furnace slag powder, sand and sodium fluosilicate in appropriate proportion, and then press it directly into the cracks of brick wall, which can play the role of bonding and reinforcing.
Water glass can also be used as raw materials for a variety of architectural coatings, such as liquid water glass and fire-resistant filler mixed into a paste fireproof coating, coated on the surface of the wood can resist transient flames, reducing the ignition point.

2. chemical industry:
Water glass solution is the basic raw material of silicate chemistry, used in the manufacture of silica gel, silicates, zeolite molecular sieves, etc..
In the chemical system, it is used to manufacture silica gel, silica, zeolite molecular sieve, sodium metasilicate pentahydrate, silica sol, layer silica and instant powdered sodium silicate, sodium potassium silicate and other various silicate products.

3. paper-making industry:

Water glass solution can be used as filler and sizing agent for paper to improve the strength and water resistance of paper.

4. ceramic industry:
Water glass solution can be used as binder and glaze for ceramic products to improve the strength and corrosion resistance of ceramic products.

5. agriculture:

Water glass solution can be used in the manufacture of pesticides, fertilizers, soil conditioners, etc., used in agricultural production.

6. light industry:
In light industry is an indispensable raw material in detergents such as laundry detergent, soap, etc. It is also a water softener and sinking aid.

7. textile industry:
In the textile industry for dyeing aid, bleaching and sizing.

8. other fields:
It is widely used in the machinery industry as casting, grinding wheel manufacturing and metal anticorrosion agent.

Formulation of acid-resistant gelling, acid-resistant mortar and acid-resistant concrete, as well as heat-resistant gelling, heat-resistant mortar and heat-resistant concrete.
Anti-corrosion engineering applications, such as for anti-corrosion engineering of various structures in the chemical industry, metallurgy, electric power, coal, textile and other sectors.

To summarize, water glass solution has a wide range of applications in many fields such as construction, chemistry, paper making, ceramics, agriculture, light industry, textile and so on. However, it should be noted that the use of water glass is also subject to some restrictions, such as can not be used in alkaline environments, because of its solubility in alkali. In addition, the quality of the water glass itself, the performance of the compound and the construction and maintenance factors also have a significant impact on its strength.
