How to select the solid sodium silicate general cargo specifications suitable for a particular industry?

Here are some ways to choose the right solid sodium silicate consignment specifications for a particular industry:
Consider the characteristics of the industry needs
Detergent industry: Usually need sodium silicate which is fast dissolving and can effectively reduce the apparent specific gravity of agglomerated washing powder, choose powdery fast dissolving sodium silicate with relatively low modulus, such as the product with modulus around 2.0-2.2, which has better solubility, can quickly play the roles of washing aid, anticorrosion, stabilisation of foam, etc., so as to make the dirt suspended, preventing the redeployment of the dirt, and also keep the finished products of the washing powder loosened and prevented from clumping.
Soap industry: when used as filler, generally choose solid sodium silicate with modulus around 2.0-2.2, which can buffer the alkalinity of laundry soap, reduce the loss of laundry soap in water, and enhance the washing ability and prevent soap rancidity.
Casting industry: For general casting, solid sodium silicate with modulus around 2.2-2.5 can be used; while precision casting may prefer products with modulus 2.5-3.0 for better bonding performance and precision control. In addition, the particle size of solid sodium silicate for casting is generally required to be finer, mostly around 20-40 mesh, so that it can be better mixed with the casting material to improve the quality of castings and surface finish.
Paper industry: When used as filler, the modulus of sodium silicate is generally required to be around 2.0-2.2, with moderate particle size, so as to be able to fill in evenly between the paper fibres, and to improve the paper’s strength, smoothness and opacity and other properties.
Construction industry: if it is used for reinforcing foundation, waterproof treatment, surface treatment, etc., it is mostly chosen solid sodium silicate with modulus around 2.6-2.8, which is easy to be dissolved in water and has high strength, so that it can better play the role of filling the pore space of the soil, enhancing the anti-seepage property, improving the water resistance and abrasion resistance.
Refractory material industry: Generally, we use solid sodium silicate with higher modulus and higher purity, such as products with modulus above 3.0, which have high bonding strength and refractory performance, and can maintain good stability under high temperature, and are used as binder or auxiliary material for the lining of high temperature furnaces and other parts.
Focus on the relationship between modulus and performance
Influence of modulus on solubility: the larger the modulus, the more difficult it is for solid sodium silicate to dissolve in water. For example, at a modulus of 1, it can be dissolved in water at room temperature; when the modulus is increased to 3 or more, it may require more than 4 atmospheres of steam to dissolve. Therefore, if the industry requires high dissolution speed of sodium silicate, such as detergent industry, you should choose low modulus products; while for some application scenarios that need to release the performance of sodium silicate slowly, such as long-lasting waterproof treatment, you can choose higher modulus products.
Influence of modulus on viscosity and strength: the higher the modulus, the higher the viscosity and strength of sodium silicate, but the solubility in water decreases. On the contrary, the smaller the modulus, the lower the viscosity and strength, and the more soluble in water. For example, in civil engineering, sodium silicate with a modulus of 2.6-2.8 is commonly used, balancing the needs for solubility and strength.
Consider particle size and packaging specifications
Particle size: Different industries require different particle sizes for solid sodium silicate. Sodium silicate with smaller particle size, such as powder or fine granule, has larger specific surface area, higher reactivity and fast dissolution speed, which is suitable for industries requiring fast reaction or dissolution, such as fillers and auxiliaries in detergents, paper making and other industries. For some industries which need to release the performance slowly or use it as a block material, such as the binder in casting and the auxiliary material of refractory material, etc., you can choose the block solid sodium silicate with larger particle size.
Packaging specifications: the choice of packaging specifications should consider the convenience of use and economy. For industries with large dosage, such as construction, paper making, etc., you can choose tonne bag packaging, easy to store and handle, reduce packaging costs. For smaller amounts or for the use of higher precision requirements of the industry, such as laboratory research, fine chemicals, etc., you can choose a small package specifications, such as 25kg / bag or smaller packages, in order to accurately measure and use.
Refer to product quality standards and approvals
Quality standards: Ensure that the solid sodium silicate you choose complies with the relevant national standards or industry standards, such as GB/T 4209-2008 and so on. These standards stipulate the technical indicators of sodium silicate, such as sodium oxide content, silica content, modulus, water insoluble content, particle size, etc. Only products that comply with the standards can ensure the stability of their quality and performance.
Certification: If the product has passed the relevant quality certification, such as ISO 9001 quality management system certification, ISO 14001 environmental management system certification, etc., it can also be used as a reference basis for selection, indicating that the manufacturer has a certain level and ability in quality management and environmental protection.
